YEAR IN REVIEW 2018
Wow… what a year 2018 was. Hill & Markes has been operating for over 112 years and somehow, each year gets better. Why? Because of our amazing customers, our resilient and hardworking employees, and our desire to make businesses all around NY safer and healthier with our product.
Many exciting and new things happened in 2018. We forged meaningful relationships with customers and our community. Introduced new innovation and capitalized on trends for our consumers. More importantly, we grew stronger together during the trials and triumphs, and enjoyed working together every single day.
Here's what our 2018 looked like.
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”- John Quincy Adams
As 2018 ends, we are thrilled to announce new leadership at Hill & Markes. We are confident these trailblazers will take us to new heights in 2019.
Jason Packer will become the next chief executive officer at Hill & Markes. Jason Packer joined the family business in September 2009. He is a third generation family member in the company. Jason worked in business development, sales management, vice president of operations and chief operating officer at Hill & Markes. Jason’s vision, dedication, and devotion to the family business will ensure success for 2019!
Colin Doherty is the new VP of Sales at Hill & Markes. Mr. Doherty began his life-long career in sales at RJ Gile and Corporate Express. Through his impressive work ethic, he was promoted to various Sales Management positions and ultimately served in the Role VP of Sales at Corporate Express in the Oregon Market. His most recent role was Sales Management at Staples. Our company is excited for the new strategies Colin will bring.
Mike Powers is the new Director of Marketing & eCommerce at Hill & Markes. Mike has been the eCommerce Manager since 2015. He was the driving force behind our nationally ranked eCommerce website. He implemented easy-to-use shopping functionalities and digital marketing strategies that contributed to 25% of total revenue coming through the site in 2018. We are thrilled for the continued success he will bring to the company.
We attended 18 Tradeshows in 2018. Interacting with our customers and displaying new solutions allows us to learn about their pain points. Have you been to any of our booths?
The B2B buying process is complex- especially with large equipment purchases.
That's why we offer onsite demonstrations for our customers. We provide training on how to use the machine, complete a demo of the technology at their facility and educate them on labor-saving techniques.
In 2018, we completed over 500 demos! You can sign up for an onsite demo here.
ALL ABOUT VIDEO
2018 was a year of tremendous growth for our digital marketing strategy. We wanted to present our brand to our customers (and potential customers) in a creative and compelling way! So, we launched three new video series.
Subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch our spotlights in 2019.
PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: The product spotlight series focuses on a new product every month. The video shows the product in action and highlights features and benefits. We’ve seen great success with this new series (Sales!) and look forward to creating even more informative and unique product videos that you can only get from H&M.
INNOVATE & EDUCATE: This series focuses on inventive janitorial technology. A quick video that shows you how to manage and use equipment that will save time and money through innovation and education.
H&M FAM SERIES: What makes Hill & Markes so great? Our work family. We wanted to share with our followers how amazing our staff is. This series is exclusive to Instagram (Follow us!). We asked our employees their favorite thing about working at Hill & Markes, how long they’ve been employed here, advice pertaining to their job, and top it off with a rapid fire question round based on industry-related terminology. It’s a fun way to get to know our Hill & Markes family.

One of the core pillars of our company is dedication to the community. Our employees embrace every fundraiser and go above and beyond to provide for those in need. We care deeply about the community and always try to give back.
We put together over 50 care packages for Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital. A hot catered meal was also provided for families and employees to share.
Four boxes filled with supplies for our furry friends at Montgomery SPCA.
Collected two large boxes with toys, clothes, and basic necessities for children in need as part of the NYS Children's Foundation Christmas Miracle Plan.
The Hill & Markes company culture is what sets our business apart. Our employees work extremely hard to meet our customers’ needs, but they also know how to have a little fun! Throughout the year, we got festive with holiday apparel (yes, those are onesies), laughed together at our company picnic, and relied on each other! See some of our fun below.
BRING IT ON 2019
We are so grateful to our amazing customers, employees, and vendors who helped make 2018 so successful.
Looking forward to what 2019 has in store! But one thing is for sure, we are a family at Hill & Markes. And we will continue to provide our customers with the tools and product to keep their facility safe and healthy.
