Sales Representative

Due to significant growth, Hill & Markes, Inc. is offering a challenging opportunity for a creative, team-oriented experienced Outside Sales Representatives in Janitorial, Industrial Packaging, or Food Service Disposables.

Hill & Markes, Inc. is headquartered in Amsterdam, NY and is an industry leader in the wholesale distribution of food service, janitorial, industrial packaging, and office supplies. The Company partners with quality industry manufacturers and delivery vehicles service customers in the states of New York and Vermont. Job Duties

  • Services existing accounts, obtains orders, and establishes new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on existing or potential sales outlets and other trade factors.
  • Adjusts content of sales presentations by studying the type of customer and needs.
  • Submits orders by referring to price lists and product literature.
  • Keeps management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, and monthly and annual territory analyses.
  • Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
  • Recommends changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Provides historical records by maintaining records on area and customer sales.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Five (5) years of sales experience in janitorial, paper, food service preferred. Associates degree.

Customer Service

Hill & Markes, Inc. is seeking professional, courteous, and experienced Customer Service Representatives. We handle a vast product line and work closely with our employees, customers, sales people, and other industry professionals. As a family-owned and operated business, we are proud of our team of outstanding employees.

Core Duties

  • Handles customer calls courteously
  • Handles customer problems, enters orders, and order status
  • Attends to customer concerns, inquiries, and order requests
  • Reviews buying history of customer and places special orders
  • Develops and distributes order planner sheet for customers
  • Enters orders
  • Suggestive selling to increase sales is encouraged
  • Is responsible for following up to ensure customer receives order
  • Is responsible for checking daily reports and call schedule
  • Maintains open lines of communication with sales force about back orders, pricing, customer complaints, and any other related items
  • Responsible for predetermined key accounts
  • Prints reports and histories
  • Reviews inventory status, tracks lost orders
  • Updates, revises, and enters customer quotes into system
  • Updates customer order forms
  • Establishes new accounts into system
  • Processes credits/shortages/overcharges
  • Makes arrangements for emergency deliveries

Additional Duties

  • Assists other customer service representatives
  • Maintains current product knowledge
  • Sends samples as necessary
  • Ensures proper training and communication with designated back up
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by supervisor or other management

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Experience: 2-3 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excel experience is ideal for the qualified candidate.

Other Related Criteria: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations; computer and data entry experience. Ability to handle high volume of phone calls in a courteous manner and multi-task. Flexibility and time management a must.
